I have a massive history library, so If anyone has any great books on history, here are some fantastic books:

Guns, Germs and Steel - Jared Diamond (why didn't the people in the Americas become a superpower before the Europeans did)
Collapse - Jared Diamond (Why noticeable societies collapsed such as the Mayan civilization, Greenland and Easter Island)

Jared is a great author. He repeats himself a bit but his content is excellent. His book The Third Chimpanzee (which I listened to the Audio on is about the Human species and our evolution in comparison to our closest relatives)

Europe: A History - Norman Davies (a massive book)
Scotland - Magnus Magnusson (did you know there is a monument to Mel Gibson in Scotland?)
Life in the Middle Ages - Martyn Whittock (About life in England before and after the Norman Invasion. A lot in here about how power corrupts)
Life in a Medieval Village - Frances and Joseph Giles
