3 Stage Shotgun Shell From Federal

This is an interesting concept:

A three stage shell comprising of different shot for variable ranges. Do you think this would be an easily achieved hack with the use of a shotgun reloading press? Could this be achieved with different weights of shot instead of the different styles of shot?

$25.00 a box for 5 rounds is more than a little steep.

That's pretty neat.

You could definitely do it at home with a shotgun shell press. Its just stacking different loads on top of each other.

I think you mightn't have the same success by just using different size lead shot, though. People already do that by reloading using recovered shot from ranges, where things get mixed up. I think the issue would be tessellation of different sized shot. If you look at the image of the shell, the shot is all pretty much the same size, but with different densities due to the material used. There might be issues with the shots mixing, and not coming out uniformly as the different sizes move around each other.

If you were to get the same shot used, though, no reason you couldn't do it yourself.
